Rules for building the plural in Spanish:

The general rule for building the plural in Spanish is to add -s at the end of the noun.

Please note:
This rule only applies for most Spanish nouns ending in a vocal.

💡 For example:
el día (day) – los días (days)
el menú (set meal) – los menús (set meals)

For all Spanish nouns ending in a consonant, you build the plural form by adding -es at the end.

💡 For example:
el hotel (hotel) – los hoteles (hotels)
el mes (month) – los meses (months)

Please note:
There are three exceptions to these general rules. Please pay attention to them, too:

If you put a noun with an accent in the last syllable into its plural form, the accent vanishes.
The reason for that is: It’s easier to pronounce.

💡 For example:
el melocotón (peach) – los melocotones (peaches)
Nouns ending in “-z” substitute the letter “z” with “-ces” to form the plural.

💡 For example:
la vez (time) – las veces (times)
la voz (voice) – las voces (voices)
Polysyllabic nouns ending in “-s” with an unstressed last syllable don't change in the plural.
Singular and plural are the same.

💡 For example:
el paraguas (umbrella) – los paraguas (umbrellas)
el lunes (Monday) – los lunes (Mondays)
