What’s important to know about Spanish pronouns?

Personal (subject) pronouns:

Please take a closer look at the Spanish personal pronouns:

yo – I
tú – you
usted – you (formal, sg)
él/ ella – he/ she
nosotros/ nosotras – we
vosotros/ vosotras – you (pl)
ustedes – you (formal, pl)
ellos/ ellas – they

Now, please take out the Spanish text that you are currently reading:
Do you recognise something?
The Spanish personal pronouns are usually left out – as they don’t have to be placed together with the verb.
You have learned the hard way, that the Spanish verbal system is very elaborate ... – and most verb forms carry the information about that grammatical person within them.

If you want to stress the (grammatical) person addressed or if it’s necessary for reasons of clarification, you mention the personal pronoun.

💡 For example:
Estoy cansada. – I (f) am tired.
Yo estoy saliendo del tren, pero ¿donde estás tú? – I am getting of the train, but where are you?

Subject pronouns following prepositions:

After prepositions, you use “mí” & “tí” – instead of “yo” & “tú”.

💡 For example:
¿Qué quieres de mí? – What do you want from me?
Pienso siempre en tí. – I always think of you.

If you want to use the preposition con (en. with), there is a slight change happening.
The preposition merges with the pronouns and forms “conmigo“ and “contigo“.

💡 For example:
¿Puedes venir conmigo? – Can you come with me?
Iré contigo. – I will go with you.
