Building the past participle (participio) of Spanish verbs

The past participle (es. participio) plays an important role in the formation of composite times in Spanish.
You will encounter the “participio” later on in the chapters on:

General rule for building the past participle / participio:

-ar verbs:
verb stem + -ado

-er and -ir verbs:
verb stem + -ido

Short revision:
If the rule above sounds a bit strange to you, please revise the chapters on Spanish verb classes and the verb stem.

💡 For example:
(hablar – to say)
hablado – said
(tener – to have)
tenido – had
(vivir – to live)
vivido – lived
