The Spanish present perfect (perfecto)

In Spanish we use the present perfect (es. perfecto) to talk about events in the past that still are connected to the present.
That’s pretty much the same as the use in English.

Building the present perfect (perfecto)

General rule:
present tense of the auxiliary verb “haber” (to have)
+
past participle (participio) of the main verb

Short revision:
If the term "participio” doesn’t ring a bell with you, please revise the linked chapter.
You will find the rules for building this verb form there.

And please take a look at the present tense of “haber” (to have):
he (I have)
has (you have)
ha (he/she/it has)
hemos (we have)
habéis (you have)
han (they have)

As we are completely set now, let’s take a look at some examples for the perfecto:

💡 For example:
hemos viajado – we have travelled
has comido – you have eaten
han vivido – they have lived
Esta mañana he trabajado mucho. – This morning I worked hard.
Hasta ahora el cliente no ha llamado. – So far, the client hasn’t called.
