Changes within the verb stem in the present tense

Please, be aware that under some conditions there are changes within the verb stem in the present tense.
These changes follow certain patterns:

  1. “e“ turns into “i“

    💡 For example:
repetir – to repeat repito, repites, repite, repetimos, repetĂs, repiten

Follow this pattern and build the present tense for the verbs:
pedir – to ask for, to order
    reĂr – to laugh

  2. “e“ turns into “ie“

    💡 For example:
    pensar – to think
pienso, piensas, piensa, pensamos, pensáis, piensan

Now, let's have some fun and build the present tense for the verb “divertir-se” (to have fun) following the pattern above.

  3. “o“ changes to “ue“

    💡 For example:
    dormir – to sleep
duermo, duermes, duerme, dormimos, dormĂs, duermen

Follow this pattern and build the present tense for the verbs:
    costar – to cost
    mostrar – to show

  4. Verbs ending in “-uir”, add “y”

    💡 For example:
concluir – to finish, to conclude
concluyo, concluyes, concluye, concluimos, concluĂs, concluyen
  5.
  6. The first person singular is built with “-zco”

Verbs ending in „-acer, -ecer, -ocer, -ucir“ build the first person singular with the ending “-zco”.
The rest follows the general rule that you already know by heart.

    💡 For example:
    conocer – to know
    conozco – I know
    conoces – you know, ...

    It's your time to shine:
Follow the pattern and build the present tense for the verbs:
    traducir – to translate
    ofrecer – to offer
