Superlative of Spanish adjectives

  1. The relative superlative

    General rule:
definite article (el, la, lo, los, las) + comparative degree

Maybe you want to revise the chapter on the comparative degree – or freshen up your knowledge on the definite article?

    💡 For example:

Madrid es la ciudad más bonita del mundo. – Madrid is the most beautiful city on earth.
Está es la soluciĂłn mejor. – That's the best solution.
  2. The absolute superlative

Of course you can build a Spanish superlative with putting “muy” (very) in front of the adjective.

    💡 For example:

El coche azul es muy rápido. – The blue car is very fast.

If you want to stress that one trait is existing to a very, very, very great extent, you have a second option.

    General rule:
    adjective + „-ísimo/a/os/as“

    💡 For example:

facilĂsimo – absolutely easy, totally easy, super easy
puntualĂsimo – really punctual, absolutely punctual, extremely punctual

El ejercicio era facilĂsimo. – The exercise was totally easy.
Juan es puntualĂsimo. – Juan is extremely punctual.
