What's essential to know about Spanish adjectives?

Adjectives are used to modify nouns (or noun phrases).
We use adjectives whenever we want to describe a person or an object in more detail.

Important to know: Spanish adjectives inflect

The first thing to know when it comes to Spanish adjectives is that they inflect.
They adjust to the noun they refer to in gender (masculine / feminine) and in number (singular / plural).

💡 For example:
los zapatos rojos – the red shoes
Los zapatos son rojos. – The shoes are red.

If you take a closer look at the examples above, you will see:
The adjective “rojo” (red) refers to the noun “zapato” (shoe).
“Zapato” is a masculine noun and if you use the plural “zapatos” (shoes), the adjective adjusts and becomes “rojos”.

Please note:
The rule of inflection applies to both types of Spanish adjectives: adjectives that are used as predicate (Los zapatos son rojos.) and the attributive form (los zapatos rojos).
