The beating heart of the Spanish language – the Spanish verb system

One of the first things we need to know about Spanish verbs is that they are grouped in three classes.
Every Spanish verb can be placed in one of the three classes.
The infinitive ending of a verb gives away to which class it belongs.

• 1^rst class: -ar verbs / -ar conjugation
  In the first group of verbs, we find all verbs ending in -ar in the infinitive.
  💡 For example:
   
  hablar – to talk
  pensar – to think
  pagar – to pay

• 2^nd class: -er verbs / -er conjugation
  The second group consists of all Spanish verbs ending in -er in the infinitive.
  💡 For example
   
  creer – to believe, to think
  comer – to eat
  temer – to fear

• 3^rd class: -ir verbs / -ir conjugation
  Last but not least the third class is the family of verbs ending in -ir in the infinitive.
  💡 For example
   
  vivir – to live
  decidir – to decide
  salir – to go out, to go away
