The indefinite article in Spanish

Not only has Spanish a definite article, but also an indefinite one.

Indefinite article in Spanish – singular

For all masculine nouns the indefinite article in Spanish is “un”.
Feminine nouns take “una” as indefinite article.

💡 For example:
un niño – a boy
una niña – a girl
un hada (f) – a fairy
un águila (f) – an eagle

Indefinite article in Spanish – plural

The plural form of the indefinite article is “unos” for masculine nouns and “unas” for feminine nouns.
The English language doesn’t know any indefinite article.
When we are translating from Spanish to English, we can help us for example with “some” to mark the plural.

💡 For example:
unos niños – some boys
unas niñas – some girls
Un pájaro canta en el jardín. – A bird sings in the garden.
Unos pájaros cantan en el jardín. – Some birds sing in the garden.
