Personal Pronouns in Italian

Italian verbs change depending on who is performing the action (expressed by a personal pronoun) and whether it's singular or plural.
Personal pronouns (pronomi soggetto) in Italian are not obligatory.
They are mostly used to emphasise or clearly differentiate between identical verb forms.

Tricky for English natives – the formal and informal “you” in Italian

In English, we know only one form of “you” for both formal and informal situations.
In Italian, when showing respect or expressing politeness, there is a distinction between the informal “tu” and the formal “Lei”.
Please note, that in the formal usage, the “Lei” is capitalized.

💬 Examples:
Tu parli bene. – You speak well. (informal context)
Lei parla bene. – You speak well. (formal context)
