The Comparative Form

The comparative is used to compare two entities.
The first form of comparison of Italian adjectives is formed by placing “più” (more) or “meno” (less) in front of the adjective.

💬 Examples:
più bello di/che – more beautiful than
meno bello di/che – less beautiful than

The comparative word “di” (than) is used before names, the indefinite article + noun and before pronouns.

💬 Examples:
Roberto è più simpatico di te. – Roberto is nicer than you.
Roberto è più alto di Carlo. – Roberto is taller than Carlo.

The comparative word “che” (than) is used when comparing two adjectives, before infinitives, prepositions and numbers.

💬 Examples:
Luisa è più bella che simpatica. – Luisa is more beautiful than nice.
Preferisco stare a Roma che a Milano. – I'd rather be in Rome than in Milan.
