Lina, a little beaver, travels through a colourful world and needs your child's help. Lina speaks English, shows your child what to do, asks and cheers – your child listens, taps, repeats and moves about. In the browser – on tablet, phone or computer. No adverts, no in-game purchases, no child account.
On the path through Lina's world, your child picks the next station. Lina does everything else: she says hello, tells the story and shows the way.
Six new words per lesson, each with a picture and a voice. Lina asks, your child taps, repeats, moves about or helps Lina search.
At the end of every lesson there is a treasure for the chest – and the new words go into the book as stickers. Next time, Lina first briefly goes over what was learnt before.
Variety matters! That's why the types of game keep changing, and each one practises listening, pointing, speaking or moving.
Lina calls an animal in Swahili – your child finds it behind bushes, trees and hills.
Lina asks for her fruit in Swahili – the right piece goes into the bowl and stays there in plain sight.
Lina names a colour in Swahili, your child taps the paint bucket – hat, scarf and bobble turn colourful.
Lina counts apples from one to ten in Swahili – your child listens and counts along.
Lina says a word for a picture that fits – or doesn't. Thumbs up or down, and Lina reveals the answer.
Memory with picture and sound: turn over, listen, find the pair.
Tap fast, collect stars – a short sprint for revision, with no penalty for taking your time.
Tile by tile a picture appears – whoever recognises it taps and says the word.
Lina says it first, then it's your child's turn. If the microphone is on, Lina listens to your child and cheers – with no marks at all.
Lina shows three cows – your child counts and says the number in Swahili. If the microphone is on, Lina hears the answer.
Lina shows cards one after another – your child taps them back in the same order.
Lina says a number in Swahili – your child picks exactly as many apples from the tree as Lina says, then taps on Lina.
No app store, no installation: the course runs in the browser, full-screen on phone and tablet. Sound and microphone work on Android phones and tablets just as they do on iPhone and iPad.
Lina speaks English with a natural-sounding AI voice; the words in Swahili come from a native-speaker AI voice (Microsoft Azure; for English: British English). Every word has a picture – your child links sound and meaning directly, without going via letters.
After every word, Lina pauses so your child can say it too. If you like, switch on the microphone: Lina listens and cheers – there are no marks and no red crosses.
Lina looks for her animals, packs her fruit, wraps up warm, colours in a picture and tidies away her toys – and your child helps with the right word in Swahili. That way even a four-year-old understands why they should speak.
From the second lesson on, every lesson starts with a short reminder round. The 156 words keep coming back in ever new games – so they are practised again and again, with no vocabulary book.
Every word learnt becomes a sticker. Tapping it says it once more – for browsing with no task attached.
One treasure per lesson. With every fifth treasure, Lina learns a new trick – dancing, galloping, cheering … – and there's a revision game.
The path shows how far Lina has come. One sun for every day of learning; seven suns fill the first row, then come moons, shooting stars and more. Nothing is ever lost – the sun chain only rewards, a break is never punished.
Three examples of how an afternoon with Lina can go
Your child taps Lina's path, and the next station is already marked. Lina explains what's on today, and the game begins – you don't need to read anything aloud or set anything up. Five to eight minutes later, the lesson is done.
Lina says the word for cat and leaves time to repeat it. Your child can join in out loud straight away or just listen at first – both are perfectly fine. The microphone is optional: if you switch it on, Lina listens.
Every lesson comes with a small tip on the parents' card, for example: at mealtimes, ask for the word for apple. That way your child meets the new word away from the screen too – and you know what they are learning right now.
For children aged about 4 to 7. Everything is read aloud; no task requires reading or writing. Younger children do best with a parent sitting alongside. The contracting party and user of our service is always an adult (a parent or other legal guardian), who decides whether and how their child uses the course.
No. Lina starts with saying hello and leads through 156 words from a child's everyday life in 26 lessons: animals, fruit, colours, numbers, body, family, weather, toys and more.
About five to eight minutes. After 15 minutes, Lina suggests a break all by herself. The lessons stay open; your child can play each one as often as they like.
No. The course runs in the browser on tablet, phone and computer. There is no child account: progress is saved to your access link. That's why it carries on from the same spot on any device – simply open the link from your order email. To do this, we store the progress on our server and set a technically necessary cookie; details are in the privacy policy.
Yes. Progress is tied to your access link, not to the device. Open the link from your order email on the other device, and Lina carries on exactly where she left off.
Just drop us a line – we'll send you the link again. Your progress is kept.
Yes, in the parents' area with a single tap. That's handy if a younger sibling wants to start from the beginning.
The microphone is optional. After a one-off permission, Lina listens to your child saying the words and recognises whether the word came across – no marks, no red cross. Only the short spoken snippet is sent, encrypted, to the speech recognition service (Microsoft Azure, data centre in the EU); recordings and recognised text are not stored.
The voices are AI voices from Microsoft Azure; the pictures are drawn with AI assistance and checked by our editorial team. There are no adverts, no in-game purchases and no third-party children's content; for speech output and speech recognition we use Microsoft Azure.
Yes. This page describes the Swahili course. The same course is also available for many other languages to learn – with the same games, and Lina always accompanies your child in English. You'll find the other languages in the course overview.
