Building the present tense in Croatian

In this chapter, we take a look at the present tense in Croatian.
As you remember, we have to distinguish four classes of verb types in Croatian:
The four verb classes are named: a-/e-/je-/i-class

Depending on the class, the verbs take different sets of endings.
Please have a look at the following table and memorize the endings by heart.

1. a-class verbs:
čitati – to write: čitam – I write, ...
kuhati – to cook: kuham – I cook, ...
plaćati – to pay: plaćam – I pay, ...

2. e-class verbs:
jesti – to eat: jedem – I eat, ...
piti – to drink: pijem – I drink, ...
pomagati – to help: pomažem – I help, ...

3. je-class verbs:
davati – I give: dajem – I give, ...
kupovati – to buy: kupujem – I buy, ...
prodavati – to sell: prodajem – I sell, ...

4. i-class verbs:
govoriti – to say: govorim – I say, ...
misliti – to think: mislim – I think, ...
raditi – to work: radim – I work, ...
