Croatian clitics

At first sight, the the term “clitic” might sound unfamiliar to you.
But the English languages also knows clitics – for example the “re” in “you're” is a clitic.
 
Croatian offer a kind of huge variety of those monosyllabic tiny words.
Each type has it's own place within the Croatian word order.
For you as a learner of Croatian it's important to know where to place each and every clitic within the structure of a sentence.
 
Placing clitics correctly distinguishes beginners from advanced students of Croatian.

Correct placement of clitics within the Croatian sentence:

1. Always place the question particle “li” first.
2. After that, place the verbal particles:
   sam, si, je, smo, ste, su (short forms of „biti“ in present tense)
   ću, ćeš, će, ćemo, ćete (short forms of „htjeti“)
   bih, bi, bismo, biste (aorist forms of „biti“)
3. The third rank goes to pronominal particles, first come the dative forms followed by accusative forms.
4. Fourth rank is occupied by the unstressed form of the reflexive pronoun “se”.

💡For example:
Ta će (2) ti (3) dobro stajati. – This will look good on you.
Htio bih (2) ti (3/D) ga (3/A) uskoro dati. – I'd like to give it to you soon.
