Imperative

To form the imperative of a Slovak verb, you generally follow this rule.

  1. Start with the infinitive
For example, let's use the verb robiĹĄ (to do).
  2. Remove the infinitive ending
In our example, the stem is rob-.
  3. Add the appropriate ending to match the person and number of the subject.

Here are the imperative endings for informal singular, informal plural, and formal plural:

Informal singular (ty):
Add -j to the stem.
💬 Example:
Robj! ‒ Do!
Hraj! ‒ Play!

Informal / formal plural (vy)
Add -te to the stem.
💬 Example:
Robte! ‒ Do!
Hrajte! ‒ Play!

Informal / formal plural (my)
Add -me to the stem.
💬 Example:
Robme! ‒ Do!
Hrajme! ‒ Let us play!
