Pretérito Mais-Que-Perfeito

The pluperfect tense (pt. pretérito mais-que-perfeito) is used to show that one event in the past happened before another event in the past.

💡 Rule for building the pluperfect:
imperfeito of the auxiliary verb “ter” + particípio passado of the main verb

The forms of “haver” in the imperfeito are:
havia / havias / havia / havíamos / haviam

🇧🇷 In Brazil, the pluperfect is also used with the forms of the imperfeito of the auxiliary verb "haver" (to have).
This is especially common in spoken language.
