Use of the indefinite article in German

The indefinite article is used when we encounter a person or an object for the very first time and therefore it is unknown to the speaker.
 
Example:
Eine Frau geht einkaufen. - A woman goes grocery shopping.
Ein Rad steht auf der StraĂźe. - A bicycle is on the street.
